Gourami vs cichlid in a planted tank?

in a planted tank, which i am about to set-up, which would go better in the tank. i have a few other predatory fish but they are good with fish anything bigger than the feeder fish. the other three i have are bottom dwellers for the most part and can hold their own against other fish. so would gouramis or cichlids be easier to have with the plants and the other fish?
