City dweller, can I see anything through a telescope?

You can get light pollution filters (google product search: light pollution filters), I personally have no experience of these but i have heard good things about them. You will never be able to see as deeply as if you were outside the city but you can still see a wide range of objects, especially the brighter ones such as globular clusters, open clusters, double stars brighter nebulae and galaxy, planets and the moon. But when you are out, make sure you never look down into the city, this will ruin any adaptation to the dark that you have developed. This can be hard sometimes, but a trick i have found is to make your own red filter glasses; buy two blue and red 3d glasses, cut both in half, discard blue bits and tape together the red bits, i find this an excellent technique if you are likely to be exposed to white lighting. As long as your eyes stay adapted the telescope will do the work! For more on LP filters, go to a href="http://www.knoxvilleobservers.org/dsonline/tips/lprfilters.html" rel="nofollow"http://www.knoxvilleobservers.org/dsonli…/a and to buy them go to (the second link below) google product search and enter light pollution filters. I hope this has helped.
